Mission Statement
Opo's Canon was founded By Opoku Boateng, a videographer, visionary and creative from Newark, NJ locally known as "OpotheBoat". OpotheBoat wished to be a part of a group/collective of artists with the aims of said collective to be able to help everyone involved by creating the space for them to be able to comfortably fit creativity into their lifestyle, promote their art and influence their communities with their messages. Heavily inspired by the Era of The Harlem Renaissance, Opo’s Canon sticks strongly to the idea of “The Second Black Renaissance'', keeping the betterment of the black community (along with other POC and marginalized communities) and the impact on American Culture as focal points of the group. With that in mind, OpotheBoat values the ideas of the artists who work beside him. Seeing the impact that different artists of the Harlem Renaissance had on the world, Opo’s Canon prioritizes the production and manifestation of the different visions of the artists involved.
